On Sunday, February 22, Alan and Judy Norman, missionaries supported by Yorkminster, talked about their work as doctors in Cambodia for the last 14 years. Judy and Alan both graduated from EVMS. Judy was an Air Force doctor for four years after September 11, 2001. Alan was a doctor in Williamsburg before they went to Cambodia in 2012.
The initial ministry was to start a small family practice residency teaching hospital, training Christian Cambodian doctors. They now also have Khmer (Cambodian) attending physicians. Alan has worked on a regional referral network grant that assists graduate physicians in starting outreach clinics in their home provinces. These dedicated Khmer doctors are missionaries in their own country which is 96 percent Buddhist/animist. Judy has been working with the women's health program and outreach through government education and rural health care.
Their support comes from several area churches, including Yorkminster, and distant. The Normans do not take a salary from the hospital in Cambodia, but contribute through fundraising to the efforts for the poor there. The sending agency, which has ministry and financial oversight, is Team Expansion.
