The Session tasked the Prayer Garden Subcommittee with researching establishing a Prayer Garden at Yorkminster and to survey the congregation on the level of interest in adding a Columbarium Ministry at Yorkminster. So what is a Columbarium?
A columbarium is a consecrated space providing a place on the property of the church for the preservation of the ashes or cremated remains for those associated with the church who wish to have a permanent alternative to the traditional cemetery or mausoleum after death. More and more churches incorporate a Columbarium into their ministry, affording church members and their families the opportunity to select their final resting place in the shadow of the church which has been central to their lives; a sacred site of beauty and dignity where their loved ones can visit and meditate at any time they visit the church.
